Overview

The Suzuki OEM exhaust was designed to meet noise and pollution regulations.
Its main drawbacks are:
1. Limiting the engine power
2. Considerable weight (compared to after market light materials)
3. (subjective) A flat sound that does not have that typical deep beefy L2 engine sound
4. (subjective) It is ugly

Aftermarket Solutions

There are several after market solutions that come to solve the problems above.
Some are slip-ons, and therefore easier to install, and some are full exhaust systems.
Aftermarket exhausts have been reported to produce a few more HP.
The main drawback with after market exhaust is their high cost (~$700-800 on average) which is almost 10% of the price of a new V-Strom.
